Anstee Forgen Micro Wind Turbines

Formerly known as the Forgen 500, Forgen 1000, Prolectric/Forgen Ventus 30 and Prolectric/Forgen Ventus 70.

The Anstee Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT) are dedicated trickle chargers for single battery and battery bank installations up to 400Ah. They are used in many different applications all over the world including government scientific research institutions, on sailing boats, and increasingly in many varied commercial applications where small-scale remote power is required.

The VAWTs do not need to be pointed into the wind, which removes the need for wind-sensing and orientation mechanisms. Their simplicity and better performance in disturbed flow-fields, compared to small horizontal-axis wind turbines (HAWT) make them a good alternative for distributed generation devices in an urban environment.   However, the Anstee turbines really come into their own when faced with extreme environments such as those found in the Arctic, Antarctic and as well as offshore marine applications.

The Anstee wind turbine in combination with the side mounting option is the most robust vertical axis machine on the market today.  Hundreds of units have been and continue to be deployed in the Antarctic every year.

There are more benefits of the VAWT’s over that of horizontal axis type design including:

  • Safer to touch if in operation (if accidentally handled), lower noise and vibration and higher efficiency in turbulent wind, reduced danger to birds, can be used in conditions unsuitable for HAWT’s.

  • The design of the machines is such that in extreme wind conditions the turbine is self-regulating. The electronic circuitry is also internally protected against overload, so neither machine requires an external regulator to be fitted.

  • The use of an Anstee micro turbine ensures easy start up after overnight mooring of sailing craft. Parked caravans, electric fence units, sea buoys or other remotely situated electronic equipment are also typical uses for the Anstee micro turbine, especially in situations where total reliability and durability is required. The generator circuit is designed so that the battery cannot be overcharged and is self-adjusting for 12 or 24 Volt batteries. Utilising quality sealed bearings, a simple yet robust construction and an efficient, carefully-balanced generator all combine to make machines that are dependable, yet effective. Add encapsulated electrical components and the unit is virtually maintenance free.

  • The Anstee Forgen micro turbines do not require a charge controller.
